Derbyshire County Premier Open Show

A very blustery but sunny day for us today, at a very local Derbyshire County Show, held at Elvaston approximately 10 minutes drive up the road!  Boxers were first in the ring so a very early start was called for aswell.  Betsy was entered in Limit under breed specialist Sue Golds (Cascorike).  We had a fantastic 1st place class win, which we then followed up with the RBOB!  Many thanks to the Judge for a great result.

We spent the rest of the day taking in the rest of the show.  There was lots to see including show-jumping, horses being shown (I thought the dogs took a lot of work to get 'show perfect'!!!) vintage cars, steam rollers, rabbits, pigeon and poultry, ferrets, local food, absolutely everything imaginable.  Overall it was super day

Whilst we were battling the weather in Derby, many of our friends were at the Blackpool CH show which turned into an absolute nightmare, leading to the show being abandoned!  Thankfully everyone came away very shaken, but relatively unharmed.  To see pictures of the showground visit www.highampress.co.uk.

1st June 2008

Southern Counties CH Show

Today we travelled 2 ½ hours south down to Newbury for the Southern Counties CH Show.  Our judge was Piet Roosenboom from Belgium, and we were entered in the biggest class of the day, Post-graduate with a superb entry of 25!  Betsy was on form and we were thrilled when we were pulled into the last 7.  Holding our nerve (as this was a Crufts qualifier), Betsy continued to show her socks off, and our efforts were rewarded with 2nd place (behind the CC Winner) we also made a brief appearance in the line-up at the end, when we were called in to challenge for the RCC!.  An absolutely fantastic result for us, this has qualified Betsy for 2009 and we're delighted.  Many thanks to the judge, a special thank you to Vikki, Christine and Pauline (Team Newlaithe) for the lovely rosette and to Cara (our friend at Leigharac) and the many others for their congratulations.

Boston DCS Premier Open Show

We had an afternoon show today, so set off for Newark at 4 pm for the Boston and District CS Premier Open Show.  We were under Margaret Cook (Emjaycee) in Post Graduate.  Betsy was a bit excitable and so when we received a nice 3rd place in this class we were delighted.  We then waited for the AV Working group classes where again we were entered in Post Graduate.  This time the judge was Mrs A Dunkley.  It was a very nice class of 10 with Betsy being 1 of 2 boxers entered.  I managed to calm her down with more success, and she showed and moved really well considering I didn't bring the right bait!! (Betsy was not pleased and I think her earlier performance was protest to this!!!!!)  We were rewarded with a fantastic 2nd place behind a stunning Giant Snauzer, we left the ring absolutely thrilled!  Many thanks to Boston DCS for a great show. and to both judges for their awards.

My First Judging Experience

I was delighted to be asked by the Anglian Boxer Club to judge their March match night.  I had a very nervous but exciting evening.  It was really great to be able to finally get some 'hands on' experience and start to learn the judging side of showing.  I had a really enjoyable evening and would like to say Thanks to the Anglian for inviting me, for their warm welcome, and of course to the club members for allowing me to judge their dogs.

8th March 2008

- Working & Pastoral Day

An early start was called for as today was our day at the biggest dog show in the world - Crufts.  So we set off bright and early at 7 am and travelled down to the NEC at Birmingham.  Our Judge for today was Janice Mair (Glenauld).  We were entered in a 'huge' graduate bitch class which had drawn an entry of 32.  Unfortunately we didn't come away with  a place today however, we had a fantastic day and were really thrilled that Betsy was able to fly the flag for Paxis at such a fantastic show.  The atmosphere of crufts is one that can't be equalled.   Betsy was admired by many of the passing public which was great,  it made us really proud that she was part of it!  Fingers crossed for Crufts 2009!

Below is some pictures captured of us on the famous 'Green Carpet'.

Elsewhere at Crufts our friends from Chalksville had a super day on Gundog Day.  Their young Golden Retriever Chalksville Autumnal Storm won his Special Junior Class out of an entry of 26 - a super result.  They also had 2 other Chalksville dogs placed 3rd in their respective classes and another class win with Chalksville Major Pursuit at Jandeburn who is owned by Debbie Challenger.  To see their full news and results visit them at www.chalksville.co.uk.  Congratulations to them on some super results.

THE BOSCARS

This year we attended the Boscars for the first time.  The day consisted of the National Pup of the Year, National Dog of the Year and the Annual Boscars Awards Dinner.  The day kicked off with the Pup of the Year competition which was judged by Philip Greenway.  He found his winner in Andsum Sky Blue Pink and his runner up was Berwynfa G-Force.  Next it was on to the Dog of the year, this event had 3 judges, Linda Carnaby, Sue Drinkwater and Virginia Shames (from the USA).  All the top winning dogs of the year battled it out until eventually their choice for the title was CH Hamlear Hail to Glory, and a delighted Brenda Groves.  The runner-up this year was CH Winuwuk Lust at First Sight.  Then it was on to the 'evening do'.  Boxers were fed and walked before everyone assembled in the foyer for pre-dinner drinks.  It was a sight to behold - so many 'boxer folk' dressed up in all their gladrags  - we don't make a bad looking bunch when we all make the effort!!!  Food was consumed and copious amounts of alcohol drank, the BQ awards given out and finally the part of the evening 'everyone' had been waiting for........ The DISCO!!!  I think I can safely say a great time was had by all!  Overall a thoroughly enjoyable day  To anyone who hasn't experienced the Boscars  - Make sure you're there next year, I know I will be. :-)  To see full event details, winners and photos www.boxerevent.com

Trent/Anglian/Northern Boxer Club
Heart Seminar and Judging Assessment

Today was a new experience for us.  We attended the Judging assessment in the morning which involved a talk by Di Johnson followed by a Judging assessment.  Di Johnsons talk was very informative and a great insight into the world of a top judge, taking Di's information on board we then embarked on our Judging task.  After the judging exercise we had some guidance and tuition from Helen Banks and Barry Alton.  This was most useful and helpful and I would like to thank Helen and Barry for their time and for sharing their extensive knowledge.

After lunch we settled down to the afternoons talks by Paul Wootton and Bruce Cattanach on Boxer Cardiomyopathy (BCM).  The talks were excellent, full of useful information and insight into this terrible disease.

Overall we had a great day.  Thanks to all the clubs involved for putting in all their time and effort, great tea and coffee and all their knowledge, help and advice.  It all seems a little clearer now!  We are looking forward to attending our next breed specific seminar and judging assessment and would encourage all that haven't yet attended such events to do so.

Anglian Boxer Club CH Show

A fairly short drive up to Newark for the Anglian Boxer CH show.  We were entered in a strong Graduate class (there was no Special Yearling so they were all in Graduate!!!) under Australian judge Mr P Foster (Boxhaven).   The class was won by Betsy's ex kennel mate Bella (Kreusvint Dancing with Newlaithe) so well done to her.  Also in the same class was Heidi (Newlaithe Game on at Farfield) so it was very much 'The Newlaithe Red-Girls Day Out in Graduate'!!

**SHOW UPDATE**  We were absolutely thrilled to hear from Newlaithe that they had a Super end to their day at the Anglian.  CH Galicar Designed for Looks by Newlaithe (Daisie) took the Bitch CC (No 5.) and then BIS.  Their young male puppy Magical Trick From Newlaithe (Dougal) won Best Puppy Dog and then BPIS.  HUGE CONGRATULATIONS go to Vikki and Christine on such a fantastic result.  See their news at www.newlaitheboxers.co.uk.

17th January 2008

Manchester CH Show

Today we were in attendance at our first CH show of the year, Manchester CH show at Stafford.  The breed judge was Jean Grandfield (Bontrapu).  In a large Post Graduate class of 21, sadly we didn't have any success.  However, our day didn't end there as we were also entered in the Bannerdown Beginners Stake class.  In a numerically strong class of 50 entries we were thrilled when the judge Mrs P Hollings shortlisted us in to the last 7.  (We were the only boxer to make the cut!).  Again we went no further today but we are delighted we represented our breed in the final 7.
